Kevin’s Sports Pub and Restaurant, winner of
the Banner’s Readers Choice “Best Bar/Club”
NORTH BENNINGTON — Kevin's Sports Pub and Restaurant, winner of the Banner's Readers Choice "Best Bar/Club" voting, is known for many things — the historic building it occupies in the village, the wall-to-wall sports entertainment and sports fans, the chef 's specials of the day. But maybe what makes Kevin's the "best" is the presence of Kevin and Lindy Lynch, and the rest of the longtime staff. The staff, most of whom have been with the business since its opening in 1995, "are loyal, friendly people who welcome the opportunity to serve you, whether you are a tourist, local, or friend." And not only does the staff have history, so does the building.
According to Larry Powers, local historian and author, the brick building on the south side of Main Street was built by H.C. Simmons on 1903. In the 1920s the restaurant side was operated by Frank Remington and the bar side was a meat market operated by Richard R. Dwyer. After a short use as a post office, Norma and Cliff Herrington opened the Villager Restaurant for many years, followed by another restaurant and bar operated by Danny and Beth Boepple; finally along came Kevin at Mike's Place, which became just Kevin's. In a travel article in The New York Times, reprinted on the North Bennington business' website, Laura Raskin urged people to "get a nightcap" at Kevin's, which she described as "a very local dive packed with a mix of villagers and a Bennington College crowd. ...
Just go with it. Everybody else does."
And that's just fine with the Lynches; Kevin's prides itself as being a "local" sports pub and restaurant.
Kevin Lynch is an experienced chef with more than 40 years of experience. The menu features prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights, the famous "burger made your way," and daily specials.
Kevin's Sports Pub and Restaurant is located at 27 Main St.; its phone number is 802-442-0122 and its website is kevinssportspubandrestaurant. com.

"Your sleep at a North Bennnington bed-and-breakfast will be blissfully undisturbed by the sounds of local traffic, but first
get a nightcap at the awkwardly named Kevin's Sports Pub & Restaurant (27 Main Street, North Bennington; 802-442-0122). This very
local dive is packed with a mix of villagers and a Bennington College crowd. You will probably catch Linda Allard and Tim
"Terrific" singing earnest Fleetwood Mac and Don McLean covers. Just go with it. Everybody else does."
